AR Camera Mode — Point Your Phone and See Slope Names in Real Time
Imagine standing at the top of a mountain, pointing your phone at the slopes below you, and seeing the names of every run and lift overlaid on your camera view in real time. That is exactly what Bonvo.Ski's AR camera mode does — and it might be the most magical feature in the app.
How AR Camera Works
AR camera mode uses your phone's camera, GPS, compass, and gyroscope together with the Bonvo.Ski slope database. It calculates which slopes and lifts are in your field of view and overlays their names as floating labels. As you pan your phone across the mountain, the labels move and update in real time.
When to Use It
- Orientation on arrival — Just arrived at a new resort? Point your phone at the mountain from the base area and instantly learn the name of every visible slope.
- At a junction — Standing where three slopes diverge? AR camera shows you exactly which is which.
- Identifying lifts — See which chairlift or gondola you are looking at, without squinting at a paper map.
- Sharing the view — Take a screenshot of the AR view and send it to friends. "This is what I am looking at right now."
Getting the Best Results
- Hold your phone steady — Give the compass a moment to calibrate. Move slowly.
- Use it outdoors in daylight — AR camera needs the phone camera and GPS, so it works best in open terrain with good visibility.
- Calibrate your compass — If labels seem offset, do a figure-eight motion with your phone to recalibrate the magnetometer.
AR camera transforms your phone into a real-time ski guide. It is one of those features that makes people stop and say "how is this possible?" Try it on your next ski day — you will not go back to squinting at paper maps.
