Group Lessons vs Private Lessons — What a First-Timer Should Book

Lessons are non-negotiable for a first snowboard season, but you have a choice: group classes or private one-on-one tuition. Both work, and the right pick depends on your budget, your nerves, and how fast you want to progress.

Group Lessons

  • Far cheaper per session. The cost is shared across the class, making a full week affordable.
  • Social and motivating. Learning alongside others at your level normalises the falls and builds friendships.
  • Less individual feedback. An instructor split between six people cannot watch every turn.
  • Fixed pace. You move with the group, which may be faster or slower than ideal.

Private Lessons

  • Fully tailored. Every minute is about you, so beginners often progress noticeably faster.
  • Flexible timing and pace. Book when you want and focus on your weak points.
  • Much more expensive per hour. A full week of privates is a serious cost.
  • Less social. It is just you and the instructor.

The Smart First-Timer Move

  1. Book group lessons as your backbone. They are great value and ideal for absolute basics.
  2. Add one or two private hours mid-week to fix a specific problem, such as linking turns or controlling speed.
  3. Book ahead. Beginner classes fill up, especially in peak weeks.

This hybrid gives you affordability plus targeted help where it counts. Once you have lessons booked, use Bonvo.Ski to scout the resort's beginner runs so you can practise the right terrain between sessions.
