Season Pass vs Day Pass vs Epic and Ikon — What a Beginner Should Buy

Lift pass options can be baffling. There are single-day passes, multi-day passes, full season passes, and the big multi-resort products like Epic and Ikon. For your first season, the right choice depends entirely on how often you will realistically ride.

The Main Options

  • Day passes. Maximum flexibility, highest per-day cost. Good if you are only riding a handful of days or want to try different resorts.
  • Multi-day resort passes. The standard choice for a one-week trip. They bundle several consecutive days at a discount.
  • Beginner or nursery passes. Many resorts sell cheap limited passes covering only the learner lifts, which is perfect for week one.
  • Full season passes. Only worth it if you will ride many days at one resort all winter.
  • Epic and Ikon. Multi-resort season passes that pay off if you travel to several partner resorts, but they are overkill for a single beginner trip.

How to Decide

  1. Count your realistic days. Be honest, beginners tire fast and may not ride every full day.
  2. Check for a beginner-area pass first. Why pay for the whole mountain when you will stay on the greens.
  3. Do the maths on Epic or Ikon only if you are planning multiple trips this season.

The honest answer for most first-timers is a beginner or short multi-day pass, not a mega season product. Plan your days first, then buy. Use Bonvo.Ski to map which lifts your chosen pass actually covers so you never pay for terrain you will not touch.
