End-of-Season Gear Care — Prep Your Skis and Board for Storage

The season may be winding down, but how you store your gear now determines how it performs next winter. Taking thirty minutes to prep your skis or board properly will save you time and money when the snow returns.

Storage Prep Checklist

  1. Clean everything — Wipe down your skis or board with a damp cloth to remove salt, dirt, and grime. Dry them completely before storage.
  2. Apply a thick coat of wax — This is the most important step. Apply a generous layer of all-temperature wax to the bases but do not scrape it off. This storage wax protects the base material from drying out and oxidising over the summer months.
  3. Check your edges — Look for nicks and rust. A light pass with a gummy stone removes surface rust. If the edges need serious work, take them to a shop before the autumn rush.
  4. Loosen your bindings — Release the DIN tension on your ski bindings to reduce spring fatigue over the summer.
  5. Dry your boots thoroughly — Remove the liners and let everything air dry for at least 48 hours. Store boots with the buckles loosely clipped in a cool, dry place.

Document Your Setup

Here is a fun one — use the AI Gear Art feature in Bonvo.Ski to snap a creative photo of your gear before storing it. It is a great way to remember your setup and share it with your ski group. You might also want to note your DIN settings and boot heat-moulding details somewhere so you are not guessing in November.

Treat your gear well now, and it will be ready to go when the first snowflakes fly.
