How to Compare Two Recorded Runs on the Same Slope

One of the most rewarding things about recording your ski runs is being able to see yourself improve. When you ski the same slope on different days — or even different runs on the same day — comparing the recordings tells you exactly what changed.

Record, Repeat, Compare

The process is straightforward. Record your runs as you normally would using Bonvo.Ski's run recording feature. The app captures your GPS track, speed data, elevation profile, and timing for every descent. When you ski the same slope again — whether it is later that day or weeks later — you get a second data set for direct comparison.

What to Look For

When comparing two runs on the same slope, focus on these metrics:

  • Top speed — Did you push harder or hold back?
  • Average speed — More consistent skiing often shows a higher average with a lower top speed.
  • Total time — Faster overall usually means fewer stops and smoother transitions.
  • Elevation profile — Look at where you gained and lost speed. Flat sections that slowed you down one day might flow better the next.
  • Track shape — With coordinate smoothing applied, you can see whether your line was tighter or wider.

Improvement Over Time

This is not about racing — though it can be. It is about understanding your skiing. Maybe you nailed the top section but lost time in the middle. Maybe morning runs are consistently faster than afternoon runs when the snow gets heavy. The data does not lie, and tracking your progress across a season is genuinely motivating. Pick a favourite slope, record it regularly, and watch yourself get better.
