Which Alpine Resorts Stay Open Latest? Plan Your Last Ski Days
The lifts are shutting down across the Alps, but that does not mean your season has to end. Some resorts stay open well into May, June, and even year-round. Knowing which ones keep spinning their lifts longest can help you squeeze every last turn out of this winter.
Glacier Resorts — The Last Ones Standing
When valley resorts close in mid-April, the glaciers keep going. Here are the heavy hitters for late-season skiing:
- Hintertux, Austria — Open 365 days a year. The only resort in Austria that never closes. If you want guaranteed snow in May, June, or even August, this is your destination.
- Stubai Glacier, Austria — Typically open until early June, then reopens in September. Excellent groomed runs above 3,000 metres.
- Tignes, France — The Grande Motte glacier keeps slopes open into May most years, with summer skiing in June and July.
- Zermatt, Switzerland — The Matterhorn glacier paradise offers summer skiing virtually year-round, with the Klein Matterhorn topping out at 3,883 metres.
