Kronplatz in 3D — The Perfect Mountain Shape for a Ski Day
If you could design the ideal ski mountain from scratch, you might end up with something that looks exactly like Kronplatz. A near-perfect dome shape, with slopes radiating outward in every direction like spokes on a wheel. It is one of the most unique mountain geometries in the Alps, and in 3D, it is absolutely stunning to explore.
A Mountain Made for 3D Visualization
Kronplatz — known as Plan de Corones in Italian — sits at 2,275 metres with runs descending in all directions toward the surrounding valleys. On a traditional piste map, this geometry gets flattened and distorted. In Bonvo.Ski's 3D view, you can rotate around the entire mountain and instantly see which slopes face north (better snow preservation) and which face south (warmer, sunnier skiing).
How to Navigate the Dome
- Start at the summit — rotate the 3D map to get a 360-degree view of the terrain radiating outward
- Check slope aspects — north-facing runs hold powder longer, south-facing runs soften earlier for spring-like conditions
- Use slope rankings to identify family-friendly descents versus expert challenges on opposite sides of the mountain
- Filter lifts to find the fastest way back to the summit from any base area
The Dolomites Backdrop
What makes Kronplatz truly special is its position. From the summit, you are surrounded by Dolomite peaks. The 3D map captures this dramatic landscape beautifully — jagged limestone towers rising around a smooth, ski-perfect dome. It is the kind of mountain that makes you fall in love with skiing all over again.
