First-Day-of-Season Nerves — A Confidence Plan

It is normal to feel nervous before your first day on the snow, especially if it is your first ever or your first since a long break. Nerves are not a sign you are unready — they are a sign you care. Here is a simple plan to turn that jittery energy into a calm, confident morning.

Before You Go

  • Lower the stakes. The goal of day one is to enjoy moving on snow, not to nail perfect turns. Reframe success as showing up and trying.
  • Know your runs. Uncertainty fuels nerves. Knowing exactly which easy runs you will ride removes a huge source of anxiety.
  • Sleep and eat well. A tired, hungry brain catastrophises. Arrive rested and fed.

On the Morning

  1. Warm up gently. A few minutes of movement loosens the body and settles the mind.
  2. Start on the flattest terrain. Get used to sliding and stopping before you ride anything with pitch.
  3. Take small wins. One linked turn, one clean stop. Stack tiny successes and confidence builds itself.
  4. Breathe. If nerves spike, pause at the side, take three slow breaths, and reset.

When It Goes Wrong

You will fall. Everyone does. Falling is not failure — it is the cost of learning, and it stops being a big deal by lunchtime. Laugh it off, get up, and try the next turn.

Walking onto the mountain with a clear plan is the single best nerve-killer there is. Build that plan in Bonvo the night before — pick your easy runs in 3D, picture your route, and arrive knowing exactly where you are going.
