Why Mayrhofen is a Snowboarder's Dream — Penken Park and Beginner Slopes
Mayrhofen in Austria's Zillertal valley is one of the snowboard world's worst-kept secrets. The terrain hits every level — but for beginners specifically, the setup is hard to beat.
What Makes Mayrhofen Beginner-Friendly
- The Ahorn mountain is beginner-only. Wide groomed pistes, blue-only difficulty. Separate cable car. Total beginners ride here without intermediate-traffic stress.
- Penken Park — One of Europe's most respected snow parks, but with a dedicated S/Beginner park with low boxes and small jumps.
- Lesson culture — Several English-speaking ski schools with strong snowboard reputations. Group lessons start at €60 for half-day.
- Town has nightlife — Bigger town than Saalbach, better for solo travellers and groups.
The Beginner's Day at Mayrhofen
- Morning — Ahorn cable car. Lessons on the wide gentle blues.
- Lunch — Top-of-mountain Ahorn restaurant. Sun terrace.
- Afternoon — Move to Penken, ride the easier blues. Watch the S-park session.
- Evening — Town bars and restaurants.
