Sestriere — Olympic Slopes at the Top of the Via Lattea

Sestriere hosted the alpine skiing events at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, and the resort still carries that world-class pedigree. Sitting at 2,035 m — one of the highest base villages in Europe — it is the crown jewel of the Via Lattea (Milky Way), a massive ski area connecting multiple Italian and French resorts across 400 km of slopes.

The Olympic Legacy

The Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli Banchetta race course drops from the summit of Monte Fraiteve down to Sestriere village. It hosted the Olympic slalom and giant slalom events. You can ski it yourself — use slope search in Bonvo.Ski to find the Banchetta slope and check its elevation profile before you drop in.

Via Lattea — 400 km from One App

The Via Lattea connects Sestriere to Sauze d'Oulx, San Sicario, Claviere, and even Montgenèvre across the French border. That is an enormous amount of terrain, and having a 3D map is essential for understanding how it all links together.

  1. Load Sestriere in the Bonvo.Ski resort selector.
  2. Zoom out to see the full Via Lattea connection — the 3D view reveals the valleys, ridges, and passes that link the resorts.
  3. Use lift filtering to identify which lifts connect the different sectors, so you can plan a full traverse.
  4. Record the journey — Start a recording at one end and ski to the other. The stats will be impressive.

Sestriere combines Olympic pedigree, massive terrain, and a high-altitude location that guarantees snow. It is one of Italy's best-kept secrets for serious skiers.
