Combine Ultra Live Heading with Group Location — Navigate to Friends in Real Time
Here is a power-user trick that will change how your ski group operates: combine Ultra Live Heading with live group location sharing and you can literally navigate to your friends in real time, on the mountain, using your phone as a compass.
How It Works
Ultra Live Heading uses your phone's magnetometer and gyroscope to show a real-time heading indicator on the 3D map. It updates as you rotate your phone. When you also have group location sharing active, your friends' positions appear as icons on the same map. Put these together and you get a live, directional guide to anyone in your group.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Enable Ultra Live Heading — Open the map and activate it from the compass button. Your heading arrow appears.
- Make sure your group is active — Open the groups tab and confirm that location sharing is enabled for your ski crew.
- Point your phone — Rotate your phone and watch the heading arrow. When it lines up with a friend's icon on the map, you are facing their direction.
- Check the distance — The map shows approximate distance between you and each group member.
When Is This Useful?
- Finding friends after lunch — "I am at the top of lift 7, where are you?" becomes unnecessary.
- Regrouping after a split — Half the group went left, half went right. Now you can converge without phone calls.
- Fog and flat light — When visibility is poor, knowing which direction to ski toward your group is genuinely useful for safety.
