Avoriaz — Car-Free Resort Navigation with 3D Maps
Avoriaz is unlike any other ski resort. Perched at 1,800 metres on a cliff edge, it is entirely car-free. You arrive, park underground, and from that moment everything is on foot or on skis. The streets are ski runs, the buildings are covered in wood, and the whole place feels like a ski village from the future. Bonvo.Ski's 3D maps are the perfect way to navigate this unique resort.
A Car-Free Village in 3D
Because Avoriaz is compact and pedestrian-only, the relationship between the village and the ski terrain is unusually tight. Runs weave between buildings. Lifts depart from the edge of apartment complexes. The 3D map captures this density beautifully — you can see exactly how the resort sits atop its cliff, with slopes dropping away in every direction.
The Portes du Soleil Connection
Avoriaz is the French gateway to the Portes du Soleil — one of the world's largest ski domains spanning France and Switzerland. From this compact base, you can ski into Châtel, Morzine, Les Gets, and across the border into Champéry and Morgins. The 3D map shows the full cross-border domain:
- Start in Avoriaz and orient yourself on the 3D map
- Identify the Swiss border crossings — visible as terrain transitions on the map
- Use lift filtering to plan efficient loops that maximize terrain and minimize repeated lifts
- Download the full Portes du Soleil map offline — signal can be patchy in the valleys between resorts
Compact but Terrain-Rich
Despite its small village footprint, Avoriaz sits on some of the best terrain in the Portes du Soleil. The steep Chavanette wall (the Swiss Wall) drops from Avoriaz toward Switzerland. The snowpark is world-class. And the off-piste between the cliffs is legendary. All of it is visible, explorable, and downloadable in Bonvo.Ski's 3D view.
