Easiest Routes Down From the Top in Saalbach

By Gergely Kovacs, founder of Bonvo.Ski 3D MapsSaalbach-Hinterglemm

Saalbach's "Ski Circus" connects mountains across the valley by lifts. From the top of any lift, several routes lead back down — some gentle, some terrifying. Without a map, beginners regularly end up on red runs by accident.

Top of Schattberg (2,096 m) — Beginner Route

Most beginners panic when they reach the Schattberg summit. The most direct way down is a red. The beginner route:

  1. From the gondola exit, head right (east), following the long blue "Schattberg Nord" sign.
  2. This blue meanders 4.5 km down at average 12% steepness — manageable for confident beginners.
  3. Lower section connects to the Hinterglemm valley pistes — all blue.

Top of Reiterkogel (1,820 m) — Beginner Route

  • Head west to the "Reiterkogel-Abfahrt" blue — 3 km, 10% steepness.
  • Wide groomed piste with great visibility. Beginner-perfect.

Top of Kohlmaiskopf (1,794 m) — Beginner Route

  • The "Familienabfahrt" (family run) — well-named. Wide blue, perfect for laps.
  • Connects directly to Saalbach village.

How Bonvo.Ski Helps

The 3D map lets you preview every route from every summit. Slope Analysis flags the average steepness so you know in advance whether a "blue" is a true blue or a borderline red. Build your route plan the night before each ride day.
