Quick Tip
Day 102 of 365

Snowboard Socks Matter More Than You Think

The cheapest piece of gear in your bag has an outsized effect on your day. The wrong socks cause cold feet, blisters, and the dreaded "boot cramp" that ends afternoons early. Get this right and the rest is easy.

The Rules

  • One pair, thin or medium — Never two pairs. Two pairs bunch, create pressure points, and reduce circulation.
  • Merino wool or synthetic blend — Cotton stays wet and gets cold. Wool insulates even when damp.
  • Knee-high length — The sock must extend past the top of the boot. Anything shorter creates a friction point on your shin.
  • Targeted padding — Look for padding on the shin and toes, smooth weave everywhere else. The shin pad is the secret weapon against the boot's front pressure.

One Pair Per Day

Pack a fresh pair for every day of your trip. Damp socks on day two are a guaranteed cold-foot afternoon. Hostels and hotel radiators almost never dry boots and socks fully overnight.

You will spend €25 on socks that disappear from your awareness, or save €10 and think about your feet every hour. Easy call.
